Mental Health & Wellbeing

At Oakfield Park School we believe that all our students and staff should strive for good mental health.

What is good mental health?  Good mental health is characterised by a person's ability to fulfil a number of key functions and activities, including:
  • The ability to learn.
  • The ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions.
  • The ability to form and maintain good relationships with others.

We support students by teaching a good quart PSHE curriculum throughout school which has been written by our teaching staff inline with PSHE association SEND guidance.

We speak with families regularly through telephone meetings with the teachers, CIN, CIC and EHCP review meetings with the wellbeing of the child at the heart of what we do in school.

We work closely with many other professionals including the NHS and CAMHs services to support our student's wellbeing.

Our Parent support advisor Tracy Bunko is always happy to signpost families who are in need of additional support to local resources.

We have a school focus on mental health and wellbeing and have termly staff wellbeing questionnaires and regular check in sessions with the students.  We also do an annual parent questionnaire which asks about their child's happiness in school.

We have spent our COVID catch up money on the outdoor areas of school including our fabulous new outdoor gym and reading gazebo.

We have offered a range of mental health and wellbeing CPD opportunities to all our staff and this will continue to be a regular half termly offer on our CPD calendar.

We have many initiatives in school for students and staff including reward assemblies / celebrations and Random acts of Kindness for staff and students.
